I collaborated with Austin filmmakers Chelsea Hernandez and Iliana Sosa this spring on a short documentary about undocumented parents. Chelsea and Iliana were commissioned by Field of Vision and Firelight media to tell a story from the perspective of vulnerable communities for the series Our 100 Days, exploring threats to U.S. democracy during the first 100 days of the new administration.
Austin, Texas, two expectant mothers—one undocumented and one US citizen—must contend with increased ICE raids and mounting hostility towards immigrants under President Trump.
It was a joy to work with such skilled and empathetic directors on this project. And though I didn’t get to work with her directly, editor Monica Santis masterfully wove the stories of two mothers, struggling with the uncertainty of how the new administration’s policy threaten the cohesion of their young families.
